Intel will construct a massive “mega-lab” to test novel cooling technology

Intel will invest $700 million in a new “mega-lab” dedicated to developing next-generation immersion liquid cooling technology.

The 200,000-square-foot structure will be built at the company’s Jones Farm location in Hillsboro, Oregon, later this year, with a projected completion date of late 2023.

Immersion cooling allows servers and other computing components to be immersed in a dielectric liquid, eliminating the need for costly data centre air conditioning.

Aside from immersion cooling, the lab will investigate the efficiency of water usage as well as heat capture and reuse.
