The Sony Xperia 1 IV may be getting a major camera improvement

According to the rumour mill, the new Sony Xperia 1 IV flagship smartphone will include a selfie camera improvement but will not come with a charging adapter.

That latter trend (via Notebookcheck) is unsurprising, given that most phone makers are following suit. Because many of us already have chargers, it makes environmental and financial sense to stop include new ones with every smartphone sold.

If you really must have another charging brick in your home, an official Sony Xperia 1 IV charger will very certainly still be available to purchase directly from Sony. The handset may also include a USB cord, allowing it to be charged from another device such as a laptop.

Consider your selfie

The Xperia 1 IV is also said to be getting a selfie camera upgrade, with the future smartphone set to include a 12MP snapper incorporated into the display, according to another piece of leaked information (also through Notebookcheck).

While megapixel counts aren’t everything, the fact that the Sony Xperia 1 III has an 8MP selfie camera suggests that the selfie camera on Sony’s next phone will be substantially better than its predecessors. The phone’s rear cameras will also be enhanced, according to prior reports.

When it comes to a release date, a teaser trailer released by Sony a few days ago suggests that the big day will be Wednesday, May 11. That day also happens to be the start of the Google IO 2022 developer conference.

Don’t forget about the selfie camera, too

When it comes to smartphone specifications, many of us don’t think to look at the quality of the selfie camera first. Before looking at the selfie camera spec, we’re more likely to glance at the internal CPU (which indicates the phone’s speed) or the cameras that make up the rear camera module.

However, given how many selfies are taken every hour of every day, this is surprising. They’re the go-to snapshot for documenting what’s going on throughout the day, whether it’s cocktails with friends or a funny moment with the dog.

Even though the specs are usually much inferior, photos produced with the selfie camera require good lighting and focus just as much as those taken with the rear camera. Of course, this is due in part to the form factor’s restrictions.

Sony can be trusted when it comes to camera lenses, so hopefully the Sony Xperia 1 IV will have a powerful selfie camera. However, if you’re looking for a new phone, it’s important noting how good or bad the selfie camera is.
