Qualcomm has set a May 20 launch date for Snapdragon

Qualcomm has confirmed that its Snapdragon Night event will begin at 8 p.m. local time on May 20 in China. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 platforms are likely to be announced at the event.

The former is said to offer incremental enhancements over the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with a minor GPU boost while maintaining the same CPU architecture – one Cortex X2 prime core running at 3GHz, three Cortex A710 performance units, and four Cortex A510 efficiency cores.

TSMC’s 4nm technology is rumoured to be used to manufacture the new flagship chipset. Motorola’s Edge X30 phone is slated to be one of the first to employ the new processor.

Along with the Adreno 662 GPU, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is said to have four Cortex-A710 performance cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four A510 units clocked at 1.8GHz. Oppo’s Reno8 is expected to be unveiled on May 23 with the latest SD 7 series processor.
