It was founded on April 15, 1955, by Maurice and Richard McDonald, and has since grown to become the world’s largest hamburger franchise. The first McDonald’s restaurant established in San Bernardino, California. Ray Kroc later joined forces with the two brothers and, with the support of the Kroc Corporation, took it worldwide. They have roughly 40,000 locations around the world as of this writing.

In response to shifting consumer tastes and a negative backlash over their food’s unhealthiness, the corporation also offered salad, frenchies smootheis, and fruit.
