Finally, a brand-new Wear OS 3 smartwatch is out, but it’s not made by Samsung

The Montblanc Summit 3 might provide a Wear OS 3 experience similar to stock.

When Wear OS 3 was introduced last year, it promised to be essentially a complete overhaul of Google’s wristwatch operating system. However, it has only been available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 series, which Google and Samsung formally introduced last year during Google I/O. That’s finally changing now. The Montblanc Summit 3 is the first watch other than a Samsung watch to use Wear OS 3.

The Montblanc Summit 3 will probably provide a very different software experience compared to the Galaxy Watch 4, which has several customization options thanks to Samsung’s One UI Watch skin. The Summit 3 will, if anything, provide a more stock-like experience, providing customers a sense of what the Pixel Watch might be like. According to a render 9to5Google published, Wear OS 3 on the Montblanc appears very different from Samsung’s implementation of the operating system.

The Summit Lite, Summit 2, and Summit 2+ smartwatches came before the Montblanc watch in the company’s smartwatch lineup. Along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chipset. It will sport a 1.28-inch AMOLED screen with a 416 × 416 resolution. NFC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0 are available for communication. The watch also features a heart rate monitor, a microphone, a barometer, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and a sensor for ambient light.

The titanium case for the Montblanc will be available in silver, black, or as a bi-color option. Depending on the case and band pairings, the rubber or leather straps are available in black, blue, or British green. The 42mm watch will have two more buttons in addition to a rotating crown for navigation. It appears to be a stunning accessory that will set you back a significant sum of money.

For casual smartwatch wearers, the Montblanc Summit 3 is not intended. The expensive wearable will set you back $1,290. If you can get past that, it will be on sale in the USA and Europe starting on July 15.
