According to a recent claim, Apple is collaborating with LG Display to develop a foldable OLED tablet that will be compatible with both the iPad and the MacBook.

According to The Elec:

Meanwhile, the business is partnering with Apple on the development of a second foldable OLED display panel.

Rather than polyimide, the panel is being built for use in tablets and laptops that use ultra-thin glass as the cover window instead.

The story does not include any other information regarding the size of the device that Apple may be developing, nor does it provide any indication of a release date. However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard reports of Apple working on foldable devices, which might include both tablets and laptops in the future. According to Ross Young of the DSCC:

On the other hand, we are now include Apple in our foldable notebook plan, which is a first for us. We have heard that there is demand in the biggest size available, which is around 20.x”. If Apple uses this size, it might establish a new product category and produce a real dual-use device: a notebook with a full-size keyboard when folded that can also be used as a monitor when not folded and used with an external keyboard when opened. At that size, it may also be possible to achieve UHD/4K resolution or even higher. However, the time range is likely to be later than 2025; it might be as late as 2026 or as late as 2027.

Therefore, don’t anticipate a “foldable” iPad or MacBook to be able to compete with Apple’s greatest iPad, the M1 iPad Pro (2021), or its best MacBook, the MacBook Pro (2021), any time soon.
